With an area of 273 Ha., the International Pablo Ruiz Picasso Airport is located 8 kilometres from the capital. Among its facilities are two terminals for flights originating from Spain and the European Union -Terminal A and, for those flights coming from the rest of the world, Terminal B, its General Flight Terminal hosting private flights, - and an extensive and varied shopping area.
Today, from Málaga, there are flights to all the Spanish capitals and a large number of European capitals as well as to New York.
Initiated in 2004, the pharaonic, airport extension work will provide among other things:

A new Car Park (in use since July 2007).
A new Passenger Terminal, scheduled to come into operation in 2009.
A new Runway scheduled for 2010.

With this extension, Málaga Airport will be well-placed to become one of the tourist airport “Hubs” (benchmark concentrator and distributor of traffic) in southern Europe.

When work is complete, Málaga Airport will see its current capacity doubled, with a peak of some 30 million passengers a year and 74 flights an hour.

Train

The arrival of the high-speed train (AVE) in Málaga in December 2007 represented a major drive in the improvement of communications for the city and the rest of the province.

The Madrid – Málaga journey currently lasts barely two and a half hours, with all the convenience and punctuality which this type of transport brings. It has brought about a significant increase in weekend tourism, both cultural and leisure-oriented, from the Spanish capital.

In its first nine months of operation, the Madrid – Málaga AVE has carried over 1.5 million passengers, far exceeding RENFE forecasts, and representing an increase of 700,000 travellers between the two cities.

The current frequency of trains is 14 daily each way which ensures the connection and facilitates a choice for travellers.

It is forecast that that, in a short time, an AVE line will be set up with Barcelona and, in the future, with Seville, thereby linking Málaga with three of Spain’s most important cities.

Boat

The Port of Málaga is a regular destination for shipping routes in the Mediterranean. An average of more than 325,000 cruise passengers a year stop off in Málaga which places that Port as 2nd in Spain in terms of number of visitors.

The new Ferry Terminal, officially opened in 2008, will contribute to the foreseeable increase of visitors to the city. It is estimated that the figure of 500,000 visitors and approximately 400 moorings annually will be reached within the next four years.

From the port, access to shopping districts is extremely straightforward, even on foot where the route necessarily passes by the future Muelle Uno Centre.
